Pride Month Statement

The Student Government Association at the University of Tennessee represents all Vols. We want to make sure that every student knows that their voices are heard and they feel welcome here. With that, we want to express our support for Pride Month once again and stand with our LGBTQ+ students, especially BIPOC members of the LGBTQ+ community. We also want to extend our support to the transgender community during this time and acknowledge that it is your fundamental right to be protected from discrimination and have access to healthcare

We recognize that we must do better. Our campus is known to be unwelcoming to LGBTQ+ folks, and as a department of Student Life, we know that we have failed you in the past. We recognize that we are run by and for students. With that in mind, this administration is committed to advocating for the creation of necessary spaces to foster safety and growth for marginalized communities on campus- such as a Women and Gender Equity Center and the relocation of the Pride Center into the Student Union.

We are tired of broken promises, and we know you are too. Together, we can change our campus.
