TITLE: A Bill to Urge the Board of Trustees to Reconsider the UT Systems Presidential Nomination

Whereas, the student body currently has no representative on the Board of Trustees,

 

Whereas, the administration has forgone any review of student opinion as to any of their administrative changes as of late,

 

Whereas, Beverly J. Davenport, PhD was terminated despite overwhelming student and faculty confidence in her ability to carry out her duties as the Chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville,

 

Whereas, the administration seems to overly politicize the issues at the University of Tennessee and has repeatedly attempted to intervene in our pursuit of academic freedom,

 

Whereas, Randy Boyd, the prospective UT Systems President, has no experience in academia or running a college or university,

 

Whereas, Randy Boyd, also has a record of forgoing the needs of marginalized communities including the LGBTQ+ community, as well as women, people of color, and immigrants,

 

Whereas, the University of Tennessee’s relationship with marginalized students has been tense since the removal of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in 2016,

 

Whereas, employing Randy Boyd as the UT Systems President poses a threat to the political and academic integrity of this institution,

Be it Hereby Resolved, that the 2018-2019 Undergraduate Student Senate urges the Board of Trustees to not approve Randy Boyd to the office of UT Systems president, and

 

Be it Hereby Resolved, that the 2018-2019 Undergraduate Student Senate recommends that the Board of Trustees creates a student representative committee to approve the candidates for the office of the UT Systems President, and

 

Be it Hereby Resolved, that the 2018-2019 Undergraduate Student Senate urges the Board of Trustees to choose the most qualified person for the job, rather than a favored candidate of an esteemed university donor.
