The Student Government Association’s Student Senate is a governing body of 60 undergraduate students that represent the interests and well-being of all students at the University of Tennessee. Each academic college and residency classification is represented through senators elected by their fellow students in the annual Student Government Association elections, which are held each spring. Senate meetings are open for all students to attend.

Mission Statement

The SGA Student Senate is a governing body of 60 undergraduate students that represent the interests and well-being of all students at the University of Tennessee. Senators present legislation as either bills or resolutions, which are then voted on by the senate. Each academic college and residency classification is represented through senators elected by their fellow students in the annual Student Government Association elections, which are held each spring. Senate meetings are open for all students to attend, and students can voice concerns during Open Town Hall.

Get Involved

If you are interested in getting involved in the SGA Student Senate, prospective senators should run for their seat in the annual spring SGA Elections. More information and requirements of the election process will be provided during an interest meeting hosted by election commission. Vacant seats are filled upon occurrence and posted on our social media. Any full-time student representing the academic college or residential area from the open seat is eligible to apply. For more information, please contact Michael “Mickey” Curtis at sga2@utk.edu.
