First-Year Council

First-Year Council is an introductory program designed to get incoming first-year students involved on campus. Throughout the year, the FYC program is designed to introduce first-years to UT with a leadership development-focused program by engaging them with different aspects of SGA and its role in the broader UT community. On top of this, these students will have the opportunity to attend a variety of programs put on around campus, while also having avenues to work with the Undergraduate Student Senate to produce meaningful legislation that will enhance the freshman experience.  Members will have the opportunity to work with the administration to advocate for changes on behalf of the freshman class as well. The skills gained from FYC will prepare these students to be engaging leaders in the UT community, whether by continuing to serve within SGA or taking their ambitions to other areas on campus. Contact Vice President, McKenzie West, at sga2@utk.edu with questions.

Get Involved

Students interested in getting involved with First-Year Council should complete the application form. Once complete, students will interview, and a cohort of first-year students will be selected. Vacant seats in FYC are filled upon the occurrence and posted on our social media. Any full-time, first-year student is eligible to apply.
