Whereas, a recent study demonstrated that around 36% of college student experience food insecurity (1)
Whereas, the University of Tennessee has the Big Orange Meal Share to address the issue of food insecurity on campus, that allows students to donate guest meal swipes to be allocated to students in need.
Whereas, an estimated 14,000 guest meal swipes expire each semester that could be donated to the Big Orange Meal Share. (Figure 1)
Let it be hereby resolved, that a “Swipe-In” option be added to MyUTK where students sign up for meal plans. The “Swipe-In” option will automatically donate the student’s extra guest meal swipes to the Big Orange Meal Share at the end of the semester.
Let it be hereby resolved, that all class syllabi include a section explaining the Big Orange Meal Share, Smokey’s Pantry, and Smokey’s Closet.
Let it be hereby resolved, that a link is added to the “My Services” section of MyUTK taking students to the Big Orange Meal Share.
