TITLE: A Bill for American Sign Language Interpreting Services for the Student Government Association Undergraduate Student Senate Sessions

Whereas, the Student Government Association Undergraduate Student Senate holds bi-weekly sessions to hear from students, present legislation, discussion legislation, and vote on legislation, which is written and discussed by elected Senators, that affects The University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus,

Whereas, these SGA UGSS Sessions are open to the public and students are encouraged to attend,

Whereas, there is a designated time during the SGA UGSS Session for members of the student body to speak in order to voice support and concern regarding various issues,

Whereas, SGA UGSS Sessions do not currently have an American Sign Language Interpreter present,

Whereas, SGA UGSS Sessions are not fully accessible to those students who communicate using ASL,

Whereas, there has been no estimated cost given by the Student Disability Services office which SGA would be responsible for in order to receive these ASL Interpreting Services at SGA UGSS Sessions,

Be it hereby resolved, that in a step of ensuring the Student Government Association Undergraduate Student Sessions are accessible to the entire student body, the Undergraduate Student Senators support receiving American Sign Language Interpreting services for the Senate sessions.
