Health & Wellness

h&wThe primary goal of the Health and Wellness Committee (H&W) is to encourage positive healthy behaviors and to create healthy environments for our campus community by distributing information to students, raising awareness of campus resources, and advocating for related university policy changes.

This committee uses a two-fold approach to implementing positive behavioral modifications for students, beginning with educating students on health issues and ultimately creating a positive environment for students to make informed decisions regarding their individual health and the health of the community.

In the past, H&W has hosted a variety of events with topics such as sexual assault, nutrition, consent, alcohol consumption, prescription drug abuse, student safety, mental health, environmental health, organ donation, and relationship health.

This year, we will be hosting events including: sexual assault and the Red Zone; nutrition and the “Freshman 15”; student safety and campus preparedness; substance abuse prevention; individual and community health effects of cigarette smoking; the relationship between mental health and substance abuse; managing stress and anxiety; the keys to healthy relationships; and safe Spring Break habits.

This committee encourages the participation of students from all backgrounds and interests in order to promote a healthy campus that benefits all students here at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville.
