2012 Referendum

This referendum calls for greater student voice in the making of administrative decisions of the
University of Tennessee, Knoxville. It also calls for the administration to be more accessible to students.

Whereas, students have expressed a lack of adequate opportunity to be part of the decision‐making
process in decisions regarding their educational institution, and

Whereas, taskforces and boards convened to set University policy do not always include numerically
comparable student representation and effective communication with students, and

Whereas, the priorities of the student body are not always adequately expressed by University of
Tennessee administration, and

Whereas, students feel a lack of accessibility to University of Tennessee, Knoxville administration, and

Whereas, the budget priorities of the student body are not always reflected in the budget priorities
produced by University administration.

Be it Hereby Resolved, the students of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville have representation
numerically comparable to that of non‐student members on all taskforces, committees, and other
administrative bodies which are tasked with setting priorities and making decisions regarding the
educational experience of UTK students, and

Be it Hereby Further Resolved, the Chancellor of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville deliver, in
person, a report on the activities of his/her office at every fourth regularly scheduled SGA Student
Senate meeting, and

Be it Hereby Further Resolved, the students of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville have greater voice
in the identification of budget priorities of this institution through a taskforce of student members that
shall deliver an annual report to the Chancellor and Board of Trustees prior to the Board of Trustees
annual budget meeting.
